The Cloudhiker Yearly Recap for 2024
2024 was an exciting year for Cloudhiker and its community. We reached a major milestone together and the site grew every month. Even though two of the large planned new features were not completed, I personally believe that the site improved a lot in the past 12 months. But let's dive into the exciting new numbers for 2024 first.

What else did we get?
During all the time I worked on Cloudhiker this year - over 300 hours in total - I worked on internal stuff a lot. The Exploring feature underwent a complete makeover, resulting in smoother functionality.
Cloudhiker also became part of the Net Zero programm on Tree Nation in March 2024. Since then, 215 trees were planted to offset 10.5 tonnes of CO2. View our progress here.
Unfortunately, reviewing new websites is still the most time-consuming part of Cloudhiker and quickly drains both energy and motivation. I spent over 60% of my 300 hours just for the review process. Although reviewing new websites remains time-intensive, I'm actively seeking solutions, like Community Voting, to streamline this process. More on that later.
Oh, did I mention that I was interviewed for an article which appeared on the BBC website?
Plans for the next year
As mentioned earlier, two large features were not completed this year, and thus were moved to 2025: Achievements and Discussions. I still want to complete the Achievements feature which is actually 50% complete already. Discussions however, will like have to wait for a longer time. There are two reasons: first is the complexity of the topic which also involves moderation. Second reason is the focus on making my work on Cloudhiker more efficient. A larger feature I want to work on is Community voting. This allows me to focus more on actual development while the community itself takes care of the review process.
Thank you all!
Last but not least, I would like to thank every single one of you. You all make Cloudhiker a great place on the internet. Thank you all!
