🌀 The Cloudhiker Yearly Recap for 2025

I would like to thank you all for being part of the Cloudhiker community. It's been a wonderful year and I can't say it often enough, that Cloudhiker wouldn't be what it is without all people using it, submitting sites and spreading the word.

The year in numbers

During the last 365 days, Cloudhiker reached almost 30,000 websites! The new 8,348 sites were submitted by 422 different users. Out of those users, 278 people submitted their very first website to Cloudhiker this year! Also, over 7,866 people joined the Cloudhiker community.

All new and existing websites together pulled in an astonishing amount of 6.7 Million views! Many of these were coming from Reddit. Cloudhiker was shared a couple of times in various threads, which I am quite thankful for. ❤️

Achievements in detail

Earlier this year, I launched Achievements on Cloudhiker, and people became immediately hooked. In total, 83,396 achievements were unlocked. The most common one is Year 1 Club, which all newly registered users receive. The rarest ones are 25 Collections created, 10,000 and 5,000 Sites submitted and 100,000 Likes received, which were achieved only once.

What else did we get?

One big new feature went live: Achievements! I worked on this a lot and I'm quite happy how it turned out. And people were pretty busy collecting their first ones.

Cloudhiker is still part of the Net Zero programm on Tree Nation and planted even more trees additionally to the programm. Since March 2024, 290 trees were planted to offset 26.5 tonnes of CO2. You can explore the Cloudhiker forest here.

Oh and I almost forgot: Web Wanderings went live, the newsletter from Cloudhiker featuring the most awesome websites of the entire collection. 14 Editions were published since March. A little less than I planned, but life is life and unplanned things happen. Anyway, the next Edition is coming soon and there will be many more themed ones this year.

Plans for the next year

Other than planned for 2024, Discussions won't happen this year. The legal risks and uncertainties alone make discussions not viable to be added to Cloudhiker yet. The state of the internet has changed a lot, and as Cloudhiker is based in Germany, a lot of laws apply to the site.

However, one new thing will emerge in 2026: Community Voting. Reviewing is still a large part of my work for Cloudhiker and led to many discussions and probably anger for submitters. Voting will pass the general review process to the community, to make reviews quicker and less subjective for me as an individual.

I hope that 2026 will again be a successful year for Cloudhiker. Together, we can make a small part of Internet a better place.
